HOUSTON (May 09, 2008) - Cat Lift Trucks, a premier brand of lift trucks legendary for its rugged durability and customer service excellence, today selected two Houston-area high school students $5,000 scholarships for their higher education pursuits.
John Gottfried from Royal High School in Brookshire and Jonathan Evans from Stratford High School in Houston were selected as this year's recipients out of more than 220 applicants from across the Houston-area. The winners were chosen based on their academic performance, extra curricular activities and demonstration of community leadership and involvement.
Royal High School senior, John Gottfried, has been accepted to Texas A&M University where he will study biomedical engineering. He is an active member of the FFA, National Honor Society and honor roll. He currently serves as the senior class president and was named as a winner in the 2007 Wendy's Heisman program for his participation in football and baseball. In his spare time, Gottfried is training to be a fire fighter with the Pattison Area Fire Department and volunteers with the historical group, Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Stratford High School senior, Jonathan Evans, will attend the University of Texas, where he will study accounting. He is the class valedictorian, an AP scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. As a member of the football team, Evans received the 2007-2008 Athletic Scholar Award and has earned an Eagle Scout award with the Boy Scouts of America. He volunteered as a participant in the MS150 for three consecutive years, raising funds of more than $2,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and is currently working on an M. D. Anderson child art project.
"Cat Lift Trucks is pleased to recognize and reward these outstanding students who have proven themselves in the classroom and the communities where they reside," said Kent Eudy, vice president of marketing for Cat Lift Trucks. "It is important for us to provide opportunities to exceptional students, like John and Jonathan, to aid in their college pursuits and subsequent entry into the workforce as our next generation of leaders."
The students will accept their awards at a special reception later this month which will be hosted at the Cat Lift Trucks North American headquarters in northwest Houston. This marks the fourth year for the Cat Lift Trucks scholarship program, which has awarded more than $33,000 to Houston-area students.
